THE CHRISTMAS EDITION

**************************

I don't know what's gone wrong on the beach? Another installment of the Master Angler competition took place last Tuesday night on Cabawn Beach in Shankill. Everyone was expecting a good show of fish after a few days of South-Easterlies. But with the exception of Martin Ryan's 2.5lb Cod the rest was a struggle. We had another ten brave souls battling for the prizes, with Mark Shortt beating off the newcomers to claim first place with a catch of 5 whiting, Martin Ryan walked onto the beach for his first ever beach competition in the club and comfortably took second place, Martin comes to the club with a great track record and will be a force to reckon with once he's blown off the cobwebs, Leinster watch out! Third place was taken by our only beach junior, Jonathon Cullen, a great achievement, not even the hassle of losing so much gear in the first part of the night put him off, well fought! The overall catch was again less than 30 for the crew, lets hope the New Year see's an improvement. For more on the results Click Here.

The Inter-Club Beach is our next outing. Each year for the past two years we've had a beach inter-club competition between ourselves, Stella Maris, Bray Outcasts Sea Anglers and the Bray Head Fishing Club Over the Christmas break. This year is no exception, as a matter of fact, the Bray Sea Anglers are the host club as we won the team event last year. If the past two years are anything to go by, this year should be another great event, but only if we get the support from the rest of the members. You don't have to be an expert, it's really all about getting a bit of fresh air and a bit of fun with the lads after been stuck in front of the TV over Christmas eating to much turkey. Please contact Liam O'Callaghan (Jnr) or Harry Gilbert for more information about entry. The competition itself will be on Sunday January 4th on Bray Beach. Times for the competition can also be obtained from Liam and Harry. If you can't make the event, maybe just consider finishing off the festive season with one last night out. Come and support the teams in the evening at the presentation awards.

Our EGM was well attended last Sunday, on the day we appointed Mark Shortt to the position of Hon. Secretary for the remainder of the season.

This is our last update before the New Year, all the crew in the Bray Sea Anglers would like to wish everyone who visits this site a very Merry Christmas and Adventurous, fish-full New Year.

Last Sunday saw the beach anglers fishing the second leg of the Beach Master Angler on Greystones North Beach. Like our first competition, we had ten people who turned out to fish. The conditions weren't great for fishing, too much sun and no wind, it was more like a cold summers day. A few rockling and the odd dog fish kept us from falling asleep during the daylight hours. With an hour to go three fish was leading the competition, but then Richard, Liam O'Callaghan, and Mark put the foot down and started bringing in catches every cast. 28 fish were caught on the day, with six fish winning it. "Well done Richard". One interesting thing though, young Jonathon Cullen caught a Wrasse, which I'd never seen before from the beach. It goes to show you the dirt of the ground we were fishing into. A lot of gear was lost. This venue didn't live up to its reputation of the past two years. Click Here for the league table.

Don't forget about our EGM on Sunday in the club house at 11.00am.

And finally, another reminder about our next Beach Master Angler. This time we're on Cabawn Beach, Shankill, on Tuesday December 9th. Fishing from 7.30pm to 11.30pm. Checkin is 7.00pm sharp.
