Alaska Salmon Fishing
Sockeye salmon, Steelhead salmon, River trout, Chum salmon, Coho salmon and of course the Chinook salmon; when salmons of this variety can be caught in the Alaskan waters its hard to keep the throngs of hopeful anglers away. Pretty justified too, there have been far too many monster catches of Chinooks or deservingly named King Salmons over the Alaskan waters, further enticing starter and pro anglers to ply its waters and search for their luck. The King Salmon is no doubt the most coveted price in Alaska salmon fishing, though over the years its estuaries are also known to shelter several gargantuan halibuts. But more or less, Alaska is more dominant with its endless salmon runs, and softer nerved...
One of my favorite things to do in this world is river fishing for rainbow trout. Standing in the flowing water of a river or stream, attempting to catch a large rainbow, is one of my favorite activities. There are many aspects of river fishing for rainbows that appeals to me, but the biggest has to be the challenge of trying to catch large rainbows (over 20 inches) on ultra light gear (4lb test monofilament). My mentor used to catch monster Rainbows in central Pennsylvania, and I've been hooked ever since he taught me his techniques twenty+ years ago. There's also something about seeing that "flash" of red while fighting a large rainbow, that I think I'm addicted to. It's quite a feeling...

There are many clear water grass flats north of Mims, Fl. that are accessible to wade fishermen and anglers using shallow draft boats. There are two shallow water boat launches, at Scottsmoor, Fl. and Mims, Fl. Unless you are using a kayak, canoe or Ghenoe; extreme care should be taken when launching your boat. Bass Tackle - Tiki Monkey By Wave Worms
When Mother Nature causes Bass to get tight lipped I am very confident they will open wide for the 3" Tiki-Monkey from Wave Worms! When I have to fish small and slow the Tiki-Monkey has proven its worthiness in my Bass fishing. It is good bait that will impress even the heartiest of Bass anglers with its hook-up abilities. How to Carve Fishing Lures
Most people when they decide to get into learning how to make fishing lures at home have done so because of the wonder that is a crankbait. I know I marveled over the contents of my tackle box many times wondering at how those wooden fishing lures were made. I remember trying my hand at it when I was a boy with no help from anyone just plain trial and error in trying to figure out the lost art of tackle making. Most people when they decide to get into learning how to make fishing lures at home have done so because of the wonder that is a crankbait. Rapala lures have been around since the 1930s with the very first lure being made of cork. These lures have become much more sophisticated over the years and some come equipped with sound, some with vibration, and others with a wiggle and wobble action that is sure to tempt even the most discriminating fish. These are one of the most realistic looking lures you can buy. An ingenious fisherman created the first lures in the 1930s. After observing the habits of fish in the waters of Finland, he realized that big fish eat wounded little fish. He created a lure that wiggled and wobbled in the water and he started catching more and more fish. And to this very day all Rapala lures that are made are hand...

A small anvil is also useful if you plan to make many metal lures or parts for such lures. It is used for cutting, bending, punching, and riveting. However, if you get a big bench vise of the machinist's or utility type you can use the anvil surface found on such vises. Or you can use a small block of iron with...

Expanding Your Saltwater Fishing Potential
Often we are faced with fish that for a variety of reasons are extra spooky or that just won't hit a lure. Some of the causes include bright sunlight, clear water and small baits. When this happens the tendency is to downsize the lure and make longer casts to the fish. Many times this works. But there are the times when the fish still don't hit our lure, even after we've thrown everything we got at them. Remember, going smaller, hence lighter with a lure makes those longer casts harder. Sometimes to have greater success we need to use a lure made of materials that are extremely light and provide a more realistic look to the fish. A lure that isn't heavy enough to be cast in the conventional way. An...
Saltwater Fishing For Fun
While it may be true that some 10 million salt water fish are kept as pets in the United States, saltwater fish are primarily harvested for fishermen looking to sell and eat their catch. Besides the fact that saltwater fishing is one of the more enjoyable activities, saltwater fish are one of the more nutritionally abundant fish when compared to others (e.g. freshwater fish). Much has been said about the benefits of Omega-3 fatty acids that are found in saltwater fish, like Salmon and Tuna. These fatty acids do wonders for the body by supplying it with the essential nutrients that can help curve the threat of cardiovascular disease and mental impairments, like Alzheimer's disease. DHA--a specific...
The fish you are after in saltwater fishing are probably these: - cod - tarpon - eels - sea catfish - mackerel - barracuda - swordfish - bass - tuna - sharks - and many more varieties. The Gear You Need First and foremost, you need a good quality rod. Go for 8 and a half to 9 feet. Also, insure it is good quality as you will need the strength. In reels, you should go for those that are protected from saltwater corrosion. Look for those made from stainless steel, titanium or fiber/resin. Try out one...
Thoughts On Freshwater vs. Saltwater Fishing
I love fishing of any kind, but some people prefer fishing in saltwater and some people prefer fishing in freshwater. Many people feel very strongly about their decision, and sometimes you can elicit the same type of reaction from them as you would if you questioned their religion. Freshwater fishing is usually a more slow paced style of fishing with more waiting in between bites and catching fish. You also may have to work harder to find fish when fishing in freshwater. However I think that fishing off the bank in freshwater is far more productive than fishing from the beach in saltwater. I also really like freshwater fishing, because it is less costly to successfully fish in freshwater. Also...

Florida Saltwater Fishing Inside Secrets
When thinking about Florida saltwater fishing, redfish is probably the first species to come to mind. Especially along the shores of the Gulf of Mexico on the western border of Florida, saltwater fishing is based around the population of redfish. While many people are of the belief that redfish tend to disappear during the cold of winter, this is actually a time when you can catch more of them with a little diligence, since fewer anglers are out looking for them. The redfish will simply move from the inshore flats to river and creek mouths and may actually travel miles up the freshwater river alleys, leaving their saltwater habitats behind for the season in search of warmer temperatures. One place...

Sport Fishing - In Search of the Blue Marlin
In the summer of 1987 a personal friend of mine, Dr Stan Rude, asked me if I wanted to go sport fishing for Blue Marlin. Without thinking a lot about it I agreed to go. Details about the time and place etc. would follow. I didn't care. I have fished all my life so agreeing to go without thinking wasn't exactly a reach for me. But, after I stopped to think about it to tell you the truth I had never been sport fishing before, and didn't know much about blue marlin. But what the heck. I had been deep sea fishing before so I thought I was up for the challenge and besides fishing is always fun. As I received the details about the trip my excitement began to grow. We had reserved a 35 foot cabin cruiser...

Living on the Texas Gulf Coast, I spend a lot of time near the water with a fishing rod in hand. The prime catch around here is Red Drum, Black Drum, Speckled Sea Trout and Flounder. When fishing for these prized fish there is a myriad of natural and live bait choices available to the fisherman. The bait of choice for local anglers is shrimp. The problem with shrimp is the ease with which it is removed from the hook. Often the little bait stealing fish, like Pin Perch, will nibble the shrimp off of the hook before a real game fish ever has the opportunity to get to it. With shrimp costing $4 to $5 per pound, this can get to be a costly proposition for the serious angler. I quickly learned to apply a...
One of the best catfish baits available at you're your local grocery store is chicken liver. The blood in a chicken liver gradually seeps into the water providing an excellent scent trail for the catfish to find. Channel catfish and young (small) Blue catfish both will eat this bait up. As with most catfish baits, they should be fished on the bottom with a slip sinker. One of the drawbacks to using liver for catfish bait is that it is difficult to keep on the hook when casting. This can be frustrating when you think you have a good cast but you see the bait fly off. There are three things that you can do to keep fresh livers on the hook. Keep in mind that I use # 6 treble hooks for all of these...
Over looked crappie baits Can crappie be caught on natural crappie baits other then minnows? Yes, but few anglers rigging live bait for crappie ever switch from minnows to other enticing live baits because 90 percent of the time there is no need to. Rosey reds and shiners are enticing meals for crappies and it is hard for them to pass up an easy meal, but what kind of other crappie baits can you use when crappie minnows are not producing? In my article today I have identified two top producers. Sunfish Fry Young sunfish fry are a very overlooked bait probably bait probably because you will not find them in a bait shop. Probably another reason is because it is not legal to fish with sunfish fry in...
GENUINE INSIDER CARP BAITS SECRETS --...
* âSweetâ ingredients in baits have always been successful, but what are the reasons for this, and how can you exploit these to catch more carp? * * The addition of concentrated sweeteners has a noticeable improvement on 'bites' over unsweetened ones. Baits with 'taste enhancers' like sweet or milk ones that promote the effects of milk sugars in your baits also seem more productive. On the subject of sugars, carp feed very much on aquatic plants and these provide a very important part of the natural diet, in digestible cellulose; for soluble fibre and energy providing sugars. Carp also feed on the most often abundant snails, mussels, shrimps and aquatic insects etc. These apart from...
Bait Fishing - Catching Crappie on Crank Baits...
Bait fishing for crappie using crank baits is probably one of the most seldom used method of catching crappie. One of the best places and time to use these crappie lures is when they are feeding on schools of threadfin shad, and gizzard shad. The best sizes select when bait fishing for crappie are 1 1/4" to 3 1/2" size crank baits. It is not uncommon when the crappie are in a feeding frenzy to hook a few double catches of crappie at the same time. When you make your selection make sure you select a crank bait lure that has a rattle built into it. The vibration really attracts crappie. You also want to match the color of your bait to the color of the bait fish that the crappie are feed on, or as...

Guided Fly Fishing Trips
Fly fishing is a specific type of fishing where a synthetic fly is used as bait. The "fly" is attached to the hook and swung over the surface of the water to attract fish. Moving the fly correctly in order to entice a fish to bite is one of the more difficult activities involved in fishing. It is quite difficult to catch fish using flies, and fly fishing is an entirely different sport than standard fishing. There are two ways that a person can learn the skills and techniques needed to successfully fly fish. One option is to buy one of the many books that offers fly fishing instructions and advice. If you want to catch more carp it is very advisable to put them at their ease right?! It's great to fish in the summer when the air is warm and the lake is calm. There are fishermen, though, who can't wait for winter and the lake to freeze solid. Ice fishing is a sport that many people enjoy, extending the fishing season to year-round pleasure. What's more, ice fishing is a great family activity. What makes ice fishing so appealing to families is that the sport isn't just about catching fish. Getting outdoors and breathing crisp, good air while having fun sums up ice fishing well. Smiles, laughs, and playing in the snow are all pretty common occurrences while out on the ice. Those reasons are just some of the few that even people who hate fishing get hooked on this winter activity...
Ice fishing is perhaps the most dangerous type of fishing. It contains many risks for the fisherman due to the weather conditions. If you are heading for this eskimo sport anyway, you'd better read carefully through the following tips. First of all, ice fishing is extremely dependent on weather. This means that before going on the open ice, you need to have supplied yourself with many useful cold-protecting materials. Of highest importance is to have a properly constructed ice shack. The shack can become your only rescue place from the cold outside: ice fishing leads to health problems such as hypothermia if you don't have a warm and cosy shack.
